All-on-4 cleaning: how to do it? Here are all the answers

"Prosthetic teeth should not be cleaned because they cannot decay."  Is this information correct? What are the main precautions to be observed for cleaning the prosthesis on implants? Let's find out together.

Crowns on implants: what are them?

With dental implants, it is possible to replace single teeth or make bridges or larger structures that can replace all the elements of the entire dental arch with fixed devices (which the patient cannot remove) or mobile.

Whether the tooth is replaced by just one or all, cleaning the prosthesis and, more generally, correct oral hygiene is one of the daily activities essential for safeguarding the health of a dental implant.

Denture cleaning on implants: why not neglect it? - Many patients wonder what sense to have in brushing their false teeth since they cannot decay.

The reason must be found at the level of tissues that support the implants, namely bone and gingiva.
These in fact, if they are not treated, can undergo inflammatory processes.

Peri-implantitis

When inflammation is confined to the gum, it is called mucositis, and in most cases, it is a reversible condition.

When the inflammation also involves the bone, we talk about peri-implantitis, and the health of the implants can be said to be compromised.

After an implantology operation, the dentist provides the patient with some rules for good home oral hygiene. Here are all the tools you need:

1- Toothbrush

The brushing of the prosthesis is as important as that of natural teeth, in fact, it would be necessary to brush at least 2 times a day for 2 minutes.

Possibly the ideal toothbrush to use should be characterized by a small head that can reach all areas of the arch.

Difference between an electric and manual toothbrush

The bristles must be soft to avoid scratching or damaging the surface of the prosthesis and the tissues around the implant.

The electric toothbrush should be preferred, but the brushing technique with the manual foresees an angle of 45 degrees of the bristles with respect to the prosthesis, proceeding from pink to white.

2- Superfloss

Superfloss is instead a special type of dental floss recommended for cleaning the prosthesis on implants or on natural teeth or for patients with the appliance.

This garrison is characterized by three parts: the rigid end, the spongy wire, and the normal one. The rigid part must be inserted in the space between the teeth or between the implants, then below the prosthesis. Subsequently, the wire must be dragged until the spongy part is not in the correspondence of the implant.

At this point with the spongy part, it is necessary to form a "C" around the prosthesis and perform upward movements, to remove the plaque.

To avoid damaging the gingiva it is necessary to have the foresight not to move the thread back and forth, as if it were a "hacksaw", but to perform movements from the top down.

3- Brush

An alternative to dental floss for cleaning the prosthesis on implants is undoubtedly the pipe cleaner.

In fact, it is another instrument that can guarantee the removal of the plaque between one tooth and another.

Once inserted between the natural tooth and the implant, back and forth movements should be performed to break up the plate and move it away from the surfaces.

If the wire needs to be regained if it ends, the pipe cleaner must be changed at the first signs of wear.

4- Water jet

The water jet is an instrument that has the function of firing water at high pressure for the superficial cleaning of the teeth and prostheses.

Although it is much loved by many patients, this device does not carry out a mechanical action and is therefore not recommended.

Its use could be useful at most to remove coarse fragments of food stuck under the prosthesis, but not to remove plaque.

The cleaning of the prosthesis on implants with the water jet can be performed by tilting the jet towards the gum. The jet pressure must be kept low.

However, the use of the toothbrush and one of dental floss and brush is unavoidable.
